New data from Juniper Research has revealed that the number of connected devices will increase by more over 285 per cent to 38.5 billion in 2020, up from 13.4 billion in 2015. Although "smart home" applications are currently grabbing the headlines about devices connected to the so-called Internet of Things (IoT), the research company said industrial and public service sectors such as retail, agriculture, smart buildings and smart grid applications will form the majority of the device base.
