Swedish vendor Ericsson has confirmed the signing of a Long Term Evolution (LTE) expansion contract with Taiwanese multi-service operator Chunghwa Telecom. According to a press release, the new agreement will further boost Chunghwa’s 4G network coverage and capacity via the use of Ericsson’s latest mobile broadband technology. Ericsson meanwhile noted that it will continue to serve as sole supplier for the entire core network, including a multi-access Evolved Packet Core, and as a major supplier for radio access network (RAN) in Taiwan’s most populated areas, including the capital Taipei.
Lin Kuo-Feng, President of Chunghwa Telecom Mobile Business Group, said of the latest deal with Ericsson: ‘The rapid growth of 4G subscriptions has exceeded our expectations. We see a huge data demand, and shifting consumer behaviour to more data-centric services. We are pleased to keep leveraging Ericsson’s global practices to offer the best-of-breed mobile network, advance user experience and to develop applications for enterprise customers.’ Jan Signell, Head of Region North East Asia at Ericsson, added: ‘This further demonstrates our commitment to our long term strategic business relationship with Chunghwa Telecom. As a major supplier to Taiwan’s largest operator, it is our mutual interests to not only deliver a superior network to optimise customer experience, but also create new revenue opportunities for Chunghwa Telecom in the enterprise business segment.’
