TRAI conducts awareness programme in Nashik

Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) conducted a telecom consumer outreach programme in Nashik on Wednesday and interacted with consumers, representatives of telecom service providers and representatives of consumer forums.

Dr Sibichen K Mathew, regional head, Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka and Kerala highlighted the initiatives taken for the consumers, particularly regarding consumer protection.

Consumers must take advantage of services say officials
“TRAI regulations provide services like Mobile Number Portability (MNP), Unsolicited Commercial Communications (UCC), Value Added Services (VAS), Complaint Redressal Mechanism etc. Consumers must take advantage of these services,” Dr Sibichen said.

Giving detailed information about the various services provided, the regional head stated that in case of any complaint or service request, the subscriber has to call customer care number of their service providers and register their complaint. If the consumer is not satisfied with the redressal of his complaint, he can approach the appellate authority, the details of which are available on www.tccms.gov.in.

The mobile consumer can move from one service provider to another service provider within the same area retaining the existing number by Mobile Number Portability (MNP), he said.  Under MNP, the mobile user is eligible to make a porting request only after 90 days from the date of activation.

Digitization on the fast track
Elaborating further, Dr Sibichen said that the consumers have an option to selectively receive telemarketing calls and SMS and can use this facility. He cleared many misconceptions regarding tariff plans, change of plans, services that can be availed and other such issues.

Talking about the digitization of cable TV network, Dr Sibichen said that digitalization has been completed in four metro cities and 38 cities. “There will be complete transition to digital cable TV by December 2016. Such digitalization can provide various value added services including broadband for the consumers,” he stated.
