Mauritius Telecom (MT), the country’s incumbent broadband operator, is planning to increase the download speeds and data allowances of its ADSL and fibre-optic broadband plans, while also reducing some of its tariffs from 1 June 2015, Agence Ecofin writes. The company will increase the downlink of its ‘Orange ADSL 1M’ plan to 10Mbps (up from 1Mbps previously), while its ‘Orange ADSL 2M’ plan will have downlink of 20Mbps (2Mbps). The download speed of its ‘Orange ADSL 4M’, meanwhile, will be upped to 30Mbps, while the monthly subscription price will drop to MUR1,849 (USD52.53) from MUR2,349 per month. In regards to its fibre-optic plans, which are offered under the MyT La Fibre banner, the operator will reduce the monthly tariff of its MyT La Fibre 30Mbps plan to MUR1,499 (MUR1,999 previously). CEO Sherry Singh said the changes are intended to allow consumers to benefit further from the digital world thanks to improved internet access at low prices.
