South African cellco Telkom has expanded its Long Term Evolution-Advanced (LTE-A) network to 22 additional suburbs across Gauteng, Western Cape and KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), TechCentral reports. The new areas that now have LTE-A coverage are Carlswald, Highveld, Halfway Gardens, Houghton Estate, Midstream Estate, Midlands Estate, Noordwyk, Parktown, Parktown North, Parkview, Greenside, Sandhurst, Saxonwold, Vorna Valley, Kyalami Hills, Killarney, Green Point and Craighall Park (all Gauteng); Rondebosch, Rosebank and Mouille Point (Western Cape); and Prestondale (KZN).
As previously reported by CommsUpdate, Telkom trialled the technology in the upscale Johannesburg suburbs of Parkview and Parkhurst in November 2014, and the LTE-A network was subsequently introduced to five suburbs – Illovo and Melrose (Gauteng), Sea Point and Three Anchor Bay (Cape Town), and Umhlanga (KZN) – in the following month.
