TNS launches multi-carrier roaming for Apac terminals

Acquirers and processors across Asia and Australasia can now benefit from Transaction Network Services’ (TNS) expertise in GPRS and 3G roaming for point-of-sale terminals thanks to the expansion of its Global Wireless Access product across the region.

Global Wireless Access (GWA) is a multi-carrier, domestic roaming SIM solution optimised for wireless payment terminals. Designed to meet the needs of the payments industry, GWA provides secure and reliable payment-specific wireless connectivity in over 150 countries around the world. Helping to mitigate single carrier blackspots, GWA adds much needed reliability to wireless terminal deployments, enhancing the operation and management of terminal fleets for processors and acquirers.

Performance and reliability are further enhanced by TNS’ optional Roam+ terminal application which provides automatic network selection based on the performance and availability of the wireless carriers.

Lisa Shipley, Executive Vice President and Managing Director of TNS’ Payment Network Solutions, said; “We’re excited to be launching our Global Wireless Access solution to the Asia Pacific region. The solution has been well received across Europe and the Americas where it has been deployed for a couple of years.

“GWA provides increased service quality when delivering wireless payment services across diverse geographies. Payment terminal owners can leverage TNS to supply a single type of SIM to unlock multiple domestic wireless carriers at little to no premium, all on a single tariff, single data plan and managed through a single portal. TNS is all about simplifying the logistics and operation of terminal fleets - SIMs can be bulk provisioned and managed from a single portal, lowering the total cost of ownership.

“The combination of connecting to the strongest active signal and roaming across multiple domestic networks ensures merchants are always able to transact, as long as there is a signal from any carrier.”

TNS enables the marketplace to connect easily to an extensive network of card schemes, banks, acquirers and processors. With over 400 global payment destinations, TNS provides support to domestic and multinational customers to accept and deliver transactions from any market to any host across the emerging Asian marketplace.

To facilitate the Asia Pacific rollout of GWA, TNS is entering into a strategic partnership with Telstra, the region’s leading telecommunication provider as well as a couple of other undisclosed companies.

Martijn Blanken, Chief Customer Officer, Global Enterprise and Services at Telstra, said: “TNS’ new Global Wireless Access solution is focused on solving a very specific use case and we’re pleased to be extending our relationship with TNS beyond the domestic shores of Australia with this launch supporting Asia.

“Our network of operator support provides the n+1 carrier coverage necessary to reliably support mission critical payment applications. Partnering with TNS gives the region’s payments device operators a standardised solution that provides carrier diversity and adds reliability at or around the domestic wireless offerings in use today.”

Telstra was awarded the prestigious 2014 Asia Pacific M2M Service Provider of the Year award by Frost & Sullivan. The judges felt Telstra continued to show significant growth in the M2M market, in terms of deployment and service revenues, by aligning itself with technological advancements and business innovation. Frost & Sullivan said that through its extensive product portfolio, ability to offer innovative solutions and outstanding M2M performance during 2013, Telstra had emerged as the M2M leader in the region.

With more than a decade of experience in providing wireless access for payments, TNS manages over 400,000 payment-specific SIMs around the world.

TNS is a Level 1 PCI DSS certified service provider and its secure network is supported 24x7x365 by TNS’ Network Operating Centres around the world.

With a strong payments heritage and more than 20 years of expertise, TNS now provides services in more than 60 countries across Europe, the Americas and the Asia Pacific regions. Through its broader payment solutions, TNS connects over a million merchants and retailers to the world’s leading banks, acquirers and processors, enabling secure, efficient and cost-effective delivery and processing of payments.
