ICANN announced that the effective date of the Additional Whois Information Policy (AWIP) and Whois advisory is 31 January 2016. In addition, ICANN has published an updated Whois advisory based on input from the community.
The updated Whois advisory is intended to provide clarification for contracted parties regarding Registration Data Directory Service (RDDS) specifications of the Registry Agreement and Registrar Accreditation Agreement. RDDS specifications are also known as Whois.
Registries and Registrars have until 31 January 2016 to implement the AWIP and the Whois advisory. Contracted parties will receive formal notice within the next two weeks.
