NAGRA, a digital TV division of the Kudelski Group and independent provider of content protection and multiscreen television solutions, says it supplied Singapore broadband and pay-TV provider StarHub with a range of products to support the telco’s recently launched IPTV service on the city-state’s Next Generation Nationwide Broadband Network (Next Gen NBN). NAGRA supplied StarHub with its MediaLive multiscreen, OpenTV 5 connectware and anyCAST CONNECT content protection solutions to enable the operator to seamlessly deploy its latest digital TV offering on an all-IP network.

As previously reported by CommsUpdate, earlier this month StarHub launched its new IPTV service for residential customers, dubbed ‘StarHub TV on Fibre’, delivered over the Next Gen NBN, offering high-definition (HD) content, ‘personalised features’ and greater interactivity. According to the company, the HD platform allows users to access ‘the same comprehensive suite of over 200 channels that are currently offered on StarHub TV1’, as well as simultaneous recording of up to two programmes. People wishing to sign up to StarHub TV on Fibre need to be in a fibre-ready area of the city-state and will need either a StarHub Fibre Home Broadband subscription or a HomeHub plan. Each of StarHub’s HomeHub (Fibre) plans includes StarHub TV on Fibre, Fibre Home Broadband, 21Mbps Mobile Broadband and a Home Phone Line. Subscription fees for StarHub TV on Fibre are similar to prices for StarHub’s existing cable TV service. Rental for the IPTV set-top box costs SGD6.42 (USD5.06) per month (including taxes).

StarHub had a total of 542,000 cable TV users as at 31 December 2014, as well as 469,000 broadband customers. However, it does not provide splits between its cable and fibre broadband users.
