Claro adds free OTT to triple play offer

Under the slogan of "the new television", Claro Colombia has announced it will add the group's streaming and over-the-top (OTT) platform Claro Video to its triple-play offer in the country, delivering to its subs over 30,000 video-on-demand (VOD) pieces of content.

The package targets premium customers, with a price nearing $50 per month, and includes digital TV with 50 HD channels, broadband connection with 10Mbps and unlimited fixed telephone, in addition to Claro Video, one of the larger OTT platforms in Latin America which has recently been streaming the latest Hollywood blockbusters soon after their cinema releases.

However, around 30% of Claro Video's movies and series are premium and are only offered as pay-per-view content. Other regular channels such as HBO HD or FOX+HD also have to be subscribed to in addition to the triple-play package.

According to the latest reports, Claro has no rival in Colombia's pay-TV sector, nearing three million subs, while DirecTV and the merged UNE-Tigo have half this amount, and Global TV comes fourth with over 600,000 subs.

Claro Colombia is the third largest TV operation of its parent company, América Móvil, just behind Claro Brazil and Net Brazil.
