MIC plans to award LTE licences next year

Vietnam will award licences for the provision of LTE services next year, Tuoi Tre News quotes Le Nam Thang, deputy Minister of Information and Communications, as saying at an international 4G conference in Hanoi. ‘Vietnam will license network operators to offer 4G services to better use its infrastructure… and create an increasingly competitive and developing telecom environment,’ the minister said, adding that concessions would be handed out in 2016, after the ministry has assessed the technology and market demand. In August 2010 the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) awarded one-year LTE test licences to a number of operators, including Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications (VNPT), Viettel, FPT Telecom, Vietnam Multimedia Corporation (VTC) and CMC Corporation.
