Movistar TV claims to have 601,000 subscribers in Chile thanks to spectacular growth in HD subscriptions, representing a 19% growth through the year and reaching 21% of the pay-TV market in the country.
Movistar's HD subscriber base grew by 219% in Chile, massively exceeding the average growth in Latin America. Telefónica's pay-TV platform is still far from leading the region's pay-TV market, but its HD offer saw a 140% growth across the Latin markets in 2014.
Such growth in Chile has been driven by the largest HD offer in the country, ahead of its nearest competitors and the multiscreen and mobile platform Movistar Play.
"Pay-TV is a key offer in Telefónica's residential services," commented Rodrigo Sajuria, manager of products and services at Movistar Chile. "We are thrilled by such important growth and aim to reach more homes thanks to an extensive offer which includes interactive TV, IPTV, direct-to-home (DTH), HD, multiscreen and video-on-demand (VOD)."
