Algerie Telecom selects ZTE for LTE project

Algerie Telecom (AT) has contracted equipment vendor ZTE Corporation of China for the deployment of stage two of its fixed-wireless Long Term Evolution (LTE) project. As previously reported by CommsUpdate, in May 2014 ZTE confirmed its part in the first phase of AT’s LTE network rollout, saying that as one of the ‘main solution providers for Algerie Telecom’s Frequency Division Duplex (FDD)-LTE network’ it was responsible for infrastructure in 14 provinces, including the capital city Algiers. In May 2014 AT introduced fixed-wireless LTE services to business subscribers; according to a company press release at that date, the operator said it had deployed 200 ‘eNodeB’ sites across the country’s 48 wilayas (provinces), with plans to install 2,000 LTE-enabled base transceiver stations (BTS) by end-2015. The FDD-LTE network was opened to private subscribers in September 2014.
