True Online, the wireline division of Thai quadruple-play operator True Corp, has set aside THB15 billion (USD462 million) to double its fibre-optic broadband network coverage in an apparent counter to mobile market leader AIS’ imminent entry to the consumer fibre broadband sector, the Bangkok Post reports. ‘We intend our broadband network to cover ten million households nationwide by 2016, up from five million currently,’ said Manut Manavutiveth, chief commercial officer of True Online. Work on network expansion will take place this year and next. Mr Manut added that True aimed to sign up 300,000 new fixed broadband subscribers this year, bringing its total to around 2.4 million.
