The town of Trim, in County Meath, has become the 500th town to receive Long Term Evolution (LTE) coverage courtesy of Vodafone Ireland, with the operator claiming that the network now reaches 90% of the country’s population. The increased footprint represents an improvement from 438 towns and 87% coverage at end-December 2014.
Meanwhile, according to BizPlus, Vodafone Ireland’s technology director, Madalina Suceveanu, believes that its 4G network will achieve the same level of coverage in three years that its 3G network did in twelve.
Vodafone claims that its 4G network currently supports downlink transmission speeds of up to 75Mbps, ten times faster than those available via 3G. Customers can access 4G as a pre-paid service, with a 30-day 7.5GB package priced at EUR20 (USD22.7). Meanwhile, RED Extra (4GB) and RED Extra Super (7GB) plans cost EUR60 and EUR80 per month, respectively.
