China Mobile Forecasts 250 Million 4G Subscribers in 2015

The numerical sneak peek comes after China Mobile's 4G business experienced significant growth this year, attracting over 50 million customers by the end of October.

Li Yue, the company's chief executive officer, said that the Time-Division Long-Term Evolution (TD-LTE) technology that China uses is "maturing" and being increasingly accepted by more telecom businesses.

"Given this, we aim to increase our 4G users to 250 million in 2015 by increasing the number of our 4G base stations to 1 million to enhance coverage," revealed Li at a global cooperation conference held in Guangzhou.

Apparently, the Beijing-based company has embraced its entrance into the 4G market in 2014. It uses the TD-LTE technology, one of the globally approved standards aside from Frequency Division Duplex (FDD-LTE).

China Mobile chairman Xi Guohua said that the company is expecting to finish the construction of its 700,000 4G base stations across the country by year-end 2014.

For this year, Xi said that the company has forecast its 4G users to number 80 million.

China Mobile has 42 operations TD-LTE commercial networks in 26 regions worldwide, allowing its subscribers to access fast Internet service no matter their location.
