Pakistan: Lahore to achieve fame in IT industry

PUNJAB Information Technology Board (PITB) Chairman Dr Umer Saif has said that Lahore will achieve a prominent place in International IT Industry in the next few years.

He said that Plan 9 established in PITB was providing opportunity to youth having unique projects to introduce their business at the global level. PITB provides all facilities, including offices, capital and consultation to the youth having new ideas. Under Plan 9, almost 44 successful companies of youth have come into market and are doing business of million dollars at the international level.

He expressed these views while talking to journalists at Arfa Software Technology Park, here on Thursday. Senior officials of PITB were also present on the occasion. Dr Umer Saif said that Software Industry of Pakistan was exporting software worth two billion dollars while India was doing the business of 100 billion dollars. He said that about 250,000 people of Pakistan were associated with IT Industry while there were numerous opportunities of progress in this sector. He said that besides employment, youths were also being provided a platform for doing their own business which was yielding excellent results.

Replying to the questions of journalists, PITB Chairman said that first facilitation centre would be inaugurated in second week of November in Rawalpindi and initially 12 centres would be set up where different services would be provided to the citizens under one roof. He said the Punjab government was introducing Right to Service Act under which the citizens would be provided required information and documents in the shortest possible time. Later, the journalists visited different projects of PITB, including surveillance centre of metro bus at Arfa Software Technology Park.
