Zong passes one million ‘Super 3G’ milestone

China Mobile Pakistan (CMPak), which operates under the ‘Zong’ banner, has signed up one million subscribers to its 3.5G dual carrier (DC)-HSPA+ service ‘Super 3G’, Dispatch News Desk Pakistan writes. The Chinese-backed cellco launched its 3G network in June this year, followed by a 4G network – the first of its kind in Pakistan – in September. However, Zong was pipped to the post with regards to reaching the one million 3G subscriber milestone, with Mobilink announcing earlier this month that it had surpassed that achievement and, having been the last of the nation’s 3G licence holders to inaugurate service, staking its claim to being the ‘fastest growing’ 3G provider in the country. Nevertheless, Zong’s CEO Fan Yunjin commented on the cellco’s achievement: ‘At Zong we are committed to provide innovative services to our customers; being the first telecom service provider in Pakistan to achieve this milestone is just a stepping stone to greater traction and more 3G connected customers in the coming months.’
