Euskaltel launches VOD to boost multiscreen service

In another step to transform a traditional cable platform into a pay-TV service to meet audience demands, Spanish regional operator Euskaltel has launched a video-on-demand (VOD) feature which complements its TV everywhere and multiscreen platform Edonon.

Videoclub Euskaltel has kicked off with 1,000 different titles, with movies, series, documentaries and kids' shows, at no extra cost for customers signed up to its Esencial, Selección and Premium packages. The VOD platform is only accessible from Edonon's HD set-top boxes, although the service will be available through more platforms in the coming months.

The on-demand platform also has a premium library which for €1.50 gives access to the latest movies and adult content. Once the content is selected, the viewer will have 48 hours to watch it.

The service is the latest in a line of improvements made by Euskaltel, which started in June with its TV everywhere beta version. Edonon offers up to 50 live streamed channels, 20 of which are also offered in HD.

The service is available for computers and tablets (iOS and Android), although the company expects to expand the platform to smartphones, smart TVs and consoles.

Euskaltel is a very strong player in the Basque Country, with nearly 60% of the pay-TV market share and 160,000 subscribers.
