Manx Telecom to offer 80Mbps connectivity via ‘VDSL Plus’ from Feb-15

Manx Telecom has outlined plans to offer downlink transmission speeds of up to 80Mbps via its new ‘VDSL Plus’ infrastructure, from February next year. According to a report by IsleofMan.com, the telco expects to cover 50% of the island at launch. Manx Telecom launched the island’s first VDSL service in 2011; it currently supports download speeds of up to 40Mbps, but users who live less than 1km away from a telephone exchange will be eligible to experience the new transmission speeds. By the end of 2014, 87% of the population will be eligible to experience standard VDSL connectivity, following the deployment of new street cabinets in Douglas, Laxey, Port Erin and Ramsey in the coming months. 16Mbps ADSL2 connectivity is available to 100% of the island’s residents.
