Huawei supports Zambian family day

Huawei Technologies Zambia joined Vice President Hon. Dr Guy Scott and Second Lady Dr Charlotte Scott to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the International Day of the Family on Saturday.

The company’s support also recognised the 50th Jubilee of diplomatic relations between China and Zambia.

The event, organised by the Families are Nations (FAN) charity, was held at the Lusaka Museum and featured a range of traditional dancers, musicians, entertainers and exhibitions. It was also attended by the Chinese Ambassador’s wife Geng Hailing and representatives from the Chinese embassy.

“Like Families are Nations, Huawei believes in building strong families, strong communities and strong nations. This is why we are pleased to support the excellent work done by the charity to improve the lives of families,” said Huawei representative Jacky Zhang.

Huawei takes its role very seriously in representing Chinese companies in fulfilling their social responsibilities, and is keen to develop and grow with the people of Zambia, he added.

This is the second year running that Huawei has donated to the charity, this year to help with fundraising to construct a family centre.

The event also saw the presentation of six awards to deserving families who had demonstrated perseverance against adversity in recent years.

Families are Nations was established in Lusaka in 2008 and aims to promote and provide quality and effective services that improve family ties through awareness and capacity building, family and child counselling services, social and economic mitigation to vulnerable groups, promotion of human rights for children and women, contributions to the fight against abuse in families and promotion of family centred primary healthcare.
