Tameer Micro Finance Bank and Telenor Pakistan joint venture announced on Monday allows free money transfer facility between Easypaisa mobile account holders. Easypaisa transactions amounted to nearly one percent of Pakistan’s GDP in 2013, said a press statement. Tameer Micro Finance Bank CEO Nadeem Hussain said, “We already have nearly three million Easypaisa mobile account customers in Pakistan. We believe that offering a simple and efficient account opening process through biometric verification system (BVS) across Easypaisa shops plays an important role in not only increasing financial inclusion but also documenting the unbanked economy.” Telenor Pakistan Chief Financial Services Officer Yahya Khan added, “Offering free money transfer throughout Pakistan using the Easypaisa Mobile Account is a continuation of our commitment to bring financial services to the unbanked population of Pakistan.” Easypaisa has more than 50,000 shops in more than 800 cities across Pakistan, and nearly six million unique customers use the services every month.
