In celebration of the commitment towards helping those less fortunate during the Holy Month of Ramadan, du lauded 274 volunteers, who distributed meals at the company’s Mawaed Al Rahman locations, as ‘Ramadan Champions’. The volunteers were joined at a celebration ceremony by social media influencers and du employees who helped to encourage community participation in du’s #30DaysofSharing Ramadan initiative.  

Social media influencers at the event included Emirati singer, Aryam; Emirati presenter, Saud al-Kaabi; Emirati singer, Faisal Al-Jassem; and actress, Rouya Al-Sabban. 

Hala Badri, Executive Vice President, Brand and Communications, du, said: “It is our pleasure to celebrate these Ramadan Champions, who contributed so much of their time to being on the ground to hand out meals at our Mawaed Al Rahman locations this Ramadan. We also commend everyone who shared their tweets, pictures and posts through social media, helping us to spread the #30DaysofSharing message and bringing the community together for such a worthwhile cause as helping those less fortunate. They are all our du Champions, and our social responsibility heroes.” 

In total, the volunteers contributed 1,228 hours across three Mawaed Al Rahman locations in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Sharjah.  

This year, du’s Mawaed Al Rahman initiative was organised under the company’s Ramadan campaign, #30DaysofSharing. Throughout the Holy Month, every post made to social media using #30DaysofSharing saw du donate AED 10 to its annual Iftar tables initiative. du also allocated AED 1.57 million, 5% of the monthly fees from its Emirati Plan subscriptions, to employ 36 Emirati women who cooked the meals distributed at du’s Mawaed Al Rahman Iftar tables to feed those less fortunate.  

Initially, the campaign had set out to recruit 25 Emirati women, however, thanks to the generous donations, the target was exceeded. 25,783 posts on social media using #30DaysofSharing generated a staggering AED257,830 for du to use, on behalf of the UAE public, to recruit 36 Emirati ladies in partnership with Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation.
