Danish telecoms operator Telenor has launched high definition (HD) voice technology, which allows it to provide high-quality voice calls and an improved user experience, over its 3G network, following successful trials of the technology in Jutland during the summer. According to a company press release, ‘HD Voice’ services have also been rolled out across Telenor’s 2G network, although due to the limited handset support for the technology, the service will revert to the company’s regular voice network once a subscriber ventures outside of 3G coverage areas.

Richard Stigaard, Telenor’s network director, added: ‘In the long term we will hopefully be able to exchange calls in HD quality with the other telecom operators, so you get the best possible sound, no matter who they are calling, but initially we are pleased to be able to make good audio quality available for calls between our own customers.’
