Emirati students participate in du’s 6th summer training program to learn vital vocational skills

As part of du’s recently concluded 6th annual summer training programme, 9 Emirati students have joined the ranks of the UAE’s fastest-growing telecommunications company to hone their vocational skills.

The trainees, who are either current students or fresh graduates, come from several high schools, universities and colleges across the UAE and from specialisations such as IT, marketing, and business, amongst others. To become part of the training programme they have to first be selected from a pool of applicants, after which they undergo face to face interviews with the du staff members who will become their supervisors and line managers on the summer training programme.

The ones accepted onto the summer training programme, worked within various departments at du, including Human Resources, IT, Operations, Finance, Government Relations, Corporate Affairs, and Enterprise Sales. They handled daily operational tasks, assigned by their line managers, such as liaising with clients, attending meetings, and writing professional communications.

Mohamed Alsaabri, Senior Director National Recruitment & Development, du, du, said: “For 6 years, our summer training programme has given Emirati students the opportunity to refine their skills in a real-world environment, thereby enhancing their employability and job prospects. We are proud to uphold our commitment to the UAE community in this manner, by providing Emirati youth with a solid foundation from which to begin their contribution to the nation’s future.”

Hamda Almahmoudi is an Emirati graduate from University of Sharjah, whose summer training placement saw her working in du’s Finance Department. “This kind of training like this helps to increase one’s experience. Practicing the things I’d learnt in university, such as the invoicing process, really helped me to understand it better. This is my first summer training and I found it very effective; I’ve learnt a lot of useful knowledge that will help me for sure. It’s only for one month and I recommend it to any student looking for knowledge and experience.”

Ali AlShemsi, an Emirati university student at UAE University, was placed in du’s Government Relations Department for his summer training. “du is a great environment to work in. It helps employees to develop and grow professionally. As a trainee I’ve learnt different experiences, such as interpersonal relations, discipline, how to communicate with government agencies, and how to write professional letters.”
