Telefónica's Wayra goes for streaming monetization

Telefónica's Wayra, the company through which the telco invests in promising start-ups, has selected Cinemad to be among its six new projects in Argentina, aiming to increase efficiency for streaming and video-on-demand (VOD) monetisation.

Wayra already has 36 running projects in the country, including the nConecta.tv social TV app which was purchased by the US company Wayin last year.

Following the public call opened in May, six new Argentinean companies have been selected for development within the next 12 months, for which Wayra will provide technological tools, mentors, work space and financial support.

Among the selected companies, Cinemad is the only one focusing on the online video business. Its app for content monetisation offers an easy way to add interactive adverts to streaming broadcasts.

Wayra also chose Winclap, a mobile advertisement platform with a focus on gaming; Less, an M2M solution centred on agriculture management; Colppy, an administrative tool for sellers; Increase, a solution for income management; and PickEat, an online food company.

Lorean Suárez, country manager at Wayra, commented: "When we launched the platform, the projects were only ideas on a piece of paper, and today, half of the projects are already a final product, with users testing the applications and a giving a lot of feedback."
