Driven by continued customer growth and revenue per user, Vodafone Qatar delivered strong growth in its first quarter with "distributable profit" reaching QR73mn in June.
Vodafone Qatar's Q1 results announced by chairman Sheikh Dr Khalid bin Thani bin Abdullah al-Thani here yesterday showed the company's mobile customer base reaching 1.35mn in June. This shows an 18% year-on-year (YoY) growth.
Vodafone Qatar earned a quarterly revenue of QR585mn; a 27% YoY growth.
Mobile average revenue per user (ARPU) increased year-on-year by QR8 to QR131, Vodafone said.
Quarterly earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) reached QR159mn; an increase of 61% year-on-year, Vodafone said.
Vodafone Qatar also saw its net loss getting reduced to QR 27mn; an improvement of 68% over the same quarter last year. The loss per share is (-QR0.03) compared with minus (-QR0.1) for the same quarter last year.
Sheikh Dr Khalid said, "Revenue for the quarter grew by 27% year-on-year, driven by a combination of continued customer growth and strong ARPU performance, which resulted in a healthy growth in EBITDA.
"This quarter also saw a significant milestone for the company with the launch of Vodafone 4G, Qatar's newest 4G network that comes with the newest content proposition and best in-store experience. Over the next few months, we will be expanding our 4G network to cover more of Doha, focusing on indoor coverage as well as outside Doha especially the camping areas."
Vodafone Qatar switched on its mobile network on March 1, 2009, and started delivering "great value" to its customers with a range of exciting products and services, shortly after.
Having built a "world class" converged IP network, Vodafone launched fibre-based consumer and enterprise fixed-line services commercially in October 2012 and is expanding its fibre services in conjunction with Qnbn deployment of "Fibre to Homes and Corporates".
