Optus Satellite has announced a three year wholesale agreement with wireless nation to deliver satellite broadband services to business and private customers in New Zealand.
The agreement boosts Optus' presence in New Zealand. At the moment the telco primarily services pay TV and free-to-air service providers. The new deal will allow it to expand services to residential, small business, corporate, farming and government clients.
Optus Satellite vice president, Paul Sheridan, said the relationship represents an opportunity for increased choice and competition in the New Zealand market. Sheridan believes that Optus Satellite's offering will increase broadband penetration in New Zealand.
“We operate dedicated transponders on our D2 satellite that provide very good line-of-sight to New Zealand’s landmass. This means that Wireless Nation can be confident in the delivery of quality broadband services to their customers regardless of where they are based.”
“We are delighted to be working with a company of the caliber and reputation of Wireless Nation. This new arrangement will enable us to leverage our investment in the latest satellite technology for New Zealand customers, and helps us build on the foundation of our existing relationships with the country’s pay-TV and free-to-air service providers,” Sheridan said.
Wireless Nation technical director, Tom Linn, said the company was delighted with the new deal.
“We have been receiving positive feedback from our rural customers since we started rolling out satellite broadband through the Optus network earlier this year. This mutual partnership opens a new chapter in delivering much needed broadband access to New Zealanders.”
