IPTV shows strong growth

Point Topic has released its latest IPTV report, which showed that at the end of December 2013 there were 96 million IPTV subscriptions across the globe.

Point Topic tracks the worldwide take-up of IPTV subscription services every quarter. The latest report looks at the latest growth trends up to the end of 2013.

“In the 12 months since Q4 2012, the IPTV subscriber market grew by 21%, with 17m net additions,” the report stated.

According to the report, Africa is starting to grow its IPTV subscriber base. “There is limited headroom for fixed IPTV services in the region, however, there are a number of new deployments that are expected to take place in the coming quarters which should provide further growth opportunities.”

The top ten IPTV countries for Q4 2013 has a new entrant with Belgium being displaced by Vietnam – an indication of the saturation in some of the more mature markets and a promise of things to come in those markets where there is more headroom for growth.

The UK and Netherlands swapped places as the UK reported a drop in IPTV subscribers. This may indicate the increased competition in the market from the OTT suppliers (Netflix, etc.).
