UK's Getting 1 Gbps Ultra-Fast FTTH

Sky, TalkTalk and CityFibre have announced that they're joining hands to launch a new company that will deliver ultra-fast broadband connection to UK homes and businesses. The new company, yet to be named, will create state of the art infrastructure for the FTTH/FTTP (Fiber To The Home/Premise) network; capable of delivering 1000 Mb of data per second. Several areas in the UK currently max out at about 300 Mbps and the new network promises speeds to rival with Google's Fibre initiative that delivers 1 Gbps speed in select cities in the United States.

The new company will use CityFibre's existing fibre network. Fujitsu, the Japanese multinational has been commissioned to setup the pure FTTH service. Once the infrastructure setup is ready, the Sky and TalkTalk will announce retail plans. If everything goes as planned, UK netizens can expect new broadband plans by 2015.

No information is available about the plans and pricing. The services will be launched in York next year with two more cities in line to get the ultra-fast broadband. Stay tuned for further updates.
